Steve McCurry

Steve McCurry (n. 1950) é um fotojornalista americano autor de um dos mais conhecidos retratos publicados pela revista National Geohraphic, 'The Afghan Girl'. 

McCurry tem formação em cinema e teatro. 
Inicialmente, começou a trabalhar como fotógrafo para um jornal local da Pensilvânia. Passado alguns anos tornou-se freelancer e viajante, registando imagens que contam histórias em diferentes pontos do globo.

Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908-2004)

Henri-Cartier Bresson, fotografo francês, foi um dos pioneiros do fotojornalismo.

Ele foi um dos impulsionadores dos géneros: street photography e life reportage.

Cartier-Bresson deixava, frequentemente, uma marcada margem negra do negativo nas suas fotografias, como sinal de uma fronteira que não deveria ser transposta, contendo dentro dos seus limites o que o fotógrafo havia querido mostrar e cuja leitura deveria ser respeitada.


"For me the camera is a sketch book, an instrument of intuition and spontaneity, the master of the instant which, in visual terms, questions and decides simultaneously. In order to “give a meaning” to the world, one has to feel involved in what one frames through the viewfinder. This attitude requires concentration, discipline of mind, sensitivity, and a sense of geometry. It is by economy of means that one arrives at simplicity of expression.

To take a photograph is to hold one’s breath when all faculties converge in a face of fleeing reality. It is at that moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy.

To take a photograph means to recognize – simultaneously and within a fraction of a second– both the fact itself and the rigorous organisation of visually perceived forms that give it meaning.

It is putting one’s head, one’s eye, and one’s heart on the same axis."

Dorothea Lange (1895-1965)

Dorothea Lange foi uma fotógrafa documental e fotojornalista americana que ficou particularmente conhecida pelo trabalho que realizou, durante o período da Grande Depressão, para a Farm Security Administration (FSA).
